BlueJeans Spaces is a virtual collaboration tool to bring back the physical presence we currently lack in this new remote work landscape. The product was designed to work with the BlueJeans Meeting platform. I was in charge of leading and developing all 3D art content for the BlueJeans Spaces. I creatively directed and reviewed all content team members' work and provided them with design feedback.

I oversaw and creatively directed all concepts we created for Blue Jeans Spaces Avatar System. I reviewed each concept art the team designed and provided detailed feedback to ensure each concept art still aligned with the overall style. In addition to overseeing, I also did most of the hair concept art you can browse above. As well as all facial feature assets and thumbnail images for the Avatar System.

Once we created 100 pieces of concept art, we delegated the modeling work to a third-party vendor. I was in charge of writing a State of Work (SOW) for the external art team to ensure they clearly understood the scope of work and acceptance criteria for each deliverable.

BlueJeans Spaces - Avatar System Highlights

This video demonstrates how we designed our avatar system. We had to make a system that is readily swappable and has a low impact on performance. We also had to design them with friendly and approachable aesthetics. I was in charge of the Avatar system's overall art direction and delivery.

Avatar - Design Exploration

I made this spectrum sheet above with UX Design team to run a survey to gather information on avatar presence preference.

I worked closely with the team to provide the overall design concept and direction for the entire Avatar System. I worked closely with the UX Design team to identify and pick the best virtual representation for our users. I also worked closely with the engineering team to ensure the avatar setup was compatible with the avatar system in the engine. I also managed the third-party vendor to ensure they delivered the assets on time that met our high-quality standards and tech specifications.

I made a spectrum sheet to help the UX team run a survey on avatar construction, and we settled on a design that is more stylized yet recognizable human features to enhance friendliness without being uncanny. The stylized and low-poly approach was also a win for our cross-platform experience, as the design has less impact on the performance.
