This demo showcased the possibility of using 5G network for an AR experience. The demo was to show the real-time lighting changes on a realistic human character on a mobile device.

I was in charge of optimizing the 3D scanned model that we purchased. I reduced the poly counts of the model and created all the additional maps for the materials in our proprietary game engine that the vendor did not provide. I also made hair and facial hair geometries and textures.

The demo was shown at the Mobile World Congress America 2018.

Asset Showcase Video From Marmoset Toolbag

The showcase video above closely depicts how the character was rendered in the proprietary engine. The video above was made in Marmoset Toolbag using the real-time ray tracing rendering mode.

We purchased two separate assets, one for the female head and one for the firefighter suit. I worked on re-scaling, adjusting, and optimizing the models to blend into one cohesive model. Both assets also did not come with any game-engine-appropriate textures. So I used the base color texture to create all the additional maps and added the dirt effects to make the character looks like she had just finished her mission.

The asset did not come with any hair model, so I made the card-based hairstyle, eyebrows, and eyelashes from scratch.

Preview images above were taken in Unreal Engine for personal portfolio purpose. The actual demo was done using proprietary game engine, but is not available to share.
